Uganda Ministry of Bob & Betsy Hayes
|
"I am a Christian not because I think I can walk in Jesus' footsteps but because He is the only one who can carry me." Michael Horton
"I do not come into this pulpit hoping that perhaps somebody will of his own free will return to Christ. My hope lies in another quarter. I hope that my Master will lay hold of some of you and say, 'You are Mine -- I claim you for Myself!" My hope arises from the freeness of grace, and not from the freedom of the will. A poor haul of fish will any gospel fisherman make is he takes none but those who are eager to leap into the net. Oh, for five minutes of the Great Shepherd's handiwork!" Charles Spurgeon
Part of the problem in our churches today is that there is too much innovation and not enough imitation. As we emphasize innovation, we start to put man in the center of churches. This eventually leads to man being more important than God. We make decisions that elevate man and then man gets the glory. The only way man can be real help is if God is glorified. Every help that man performs must be because of what God has done for him (us). If it isn't then God is not glorified and man is ultimately the loser. Source unknown

Since 1992, Bob has made over fifty mission trips to Uganda plus side trips with mission teams to Guatemala, Israel, Japan, and South Sudan. Betsy has been on some of these trips and as the Lord provides, will accompany Bob more often.
Originally, Bob went to Uganda every other year, then it became yearly, and most recently, several times per year.
|
|
Since October of 2011, Bob has he been working with ACTI on a full-time basis with at least three Uganda trips per year. He was in Uganda five times in 2013.
|
Bob is a member in good standing with the
Gulf Coast Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church in America. Gulf Coast Presbytery has
approved his labors with Africa Christian Training Institute. Since ACTI is not direct ministry of Gulf Coast Presbytery or the Presbyterian Church in America, Bob's official call is "Laboring Outside The Bounds of Presbytery." This simply means he is still under the authority and accountability of Gulf Coast Presbytery but laboring in a non Presbytery ministry. This is very common for Presbytery members who are professors, chaplains, and those working with organizations such as rescue missions.
In doing so, he
- Oversees all the stateside activities of the Africa Christian Training Institute, the ministry organized by Dr. Henry Krabbendam in 1985
- Organizes at least three short-term mission teams to Uganda each year, approximately four weeks in length each that will focus on helping train and equip Ugandans for the work of ministry
- Organizes other teams for shorter trips that focus on specific individuals and abilities (eg. Spring Break trip for students, construction teams, medical teams, etc)
- Continues to develop and refine materials for use in Uganda and to help prepare American teams for effective short-term trips
- Participates in church mission conferences and preach in area churches as invited
- Uses his 25 years and 45+ trip experience to guide and direct others who seek help in organizing their own teams to Uganda and other areas as appropriate

Ministry Financial Integrity Statement
Bob's local accountability is through Bill Daughdrill, Russell Jinks and Jay Trumbull. Funding for this ministry is in two parts based on an approved budget.
- The first is a stipend to help support Bob's ministry
The second, and more important, is for ministry expenses which includes travel and funding for ministry in Uganda (and other places Bob might be invited). Ministry in the third world is not simply limited to travel to get there, but funding for events, travel for participants to the events and often food and lodging for them as well.
I would appreciate any references or contacts you could provide to individuals or churches who might be interested in ministry in Uganda.
If you would be interested in being part of a future team, please contact me at Bob@ugandamission.net or 850-615-4060 and I will provide necessary materials to help you make an informed decision about such ministry.
