Accessibility to medical clinics, even to stores that would sell first aid supplies is often not an option in village life. Therefore we provide simple wound care kits with instructions for serious injuries to be taken to a clinic. I have seen a simple cut on a child's leg become a serious issue with infection, simply due to lack of care.
You, your Sunday School class, small group, or church can help by making these kits and sending them to us and we will take them and distribute them on our next trip.
Wound Care Kit contents:
- A one quart Zip Lock® bag
- One box (10 count) extra large bandages
- Two boxes (20 count) 3" x 1" bandages
- We prefer to use the 3" x 1" bandages as they are slightly larger than the standard 3/4" and they cover a wound better
- The assorted boxes have several sizes that will not be very useful in the third world and this is why we recommend the single size boxes
- One .5 ounce or 1 ounce generic Neosporin® (Bacitracin Zinc, Neomycin Sulfate, and Polymyxin B Sulfate). Generic is half the price of the brand name and equally as effective
- We will provide a one page wound care instruction sheet (English & Lugandan) with a gospel presentation (also in both languages) on the back. You can see a sample here.
